‘In ‘De Coyote en de Das’ vertelt elke gitaar een verhaal. Het gefluister van een zacht gedicht in je oor, de schreeuw van een innig drama, en in elk daarvan spreekt de gitaar van Edison winnaar Marc van Vugt met zijn eigen stem. Prachtige akoestische gitaarmuziek in de traditie van Bill Connors, Ralph Towner, Pat Metheny en Egberto Gismonti. Een avondvullend solo akoestisch gitaar programma.
In 2022 en vervolgens in 2024 bracht Marc de twee albums ‘The Lonely Coyote’ en ‘The Curious Badger’ uit die unaniem met lof in de pers werden ontvangen. Marc werd in 2023 en in 2024 in de top 3 beste akoestisch gitaristen van de Benelux gekozen. De muziek van beide albums wordt op radiostations over de hele wereld gedraaid. De hitsingle ‘Dancing in the Wind’ stond 5 maanden in de top 10 van de toonaangevende Amerikaanse website Allaboutjazz. Zijn albums stonden twee jaar in de Amerikaanse jazz top 200.

“Mijn liefde voor gitaar begon toen ik 11 jaar oud was en het eerste akkoord van ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ hoorde. Ik werd helemaal overdonderd door wat ik hoorde en verdween volledig in het geluid. Op dat moment wist ik dat dit was wat ik wilde doen voor de rest van mijn leven.
Voor ‘The Coyote and the Badger’ besloot ik mijn muziek terug te brengen tot enkel ‘ik en mijn gitaar’. Geen groot ensemble om te orkestreren, geen andere muzikanten om mee te werken. Niet slechts één gitaar: iedere compositie wordt gespeeld op een andere akoestische gitaar met telkens een eigen geluid en stem. Elk vertelt een ander verhaal, fluisterend in je oor of soms schreeuwend van emoties. Het voelt als een pact tussen mij en al deze gitaren. Een wonderlijke combinatie zoals die van de das (badger) en de coyote die er soms voor kiezen om een roedel te vormen en samen te jagen”

‘In “The Coyote and the Badger”, each guitar tells a story. The whisper of a gentle poem in your ear, the cry of a heartfelt drama, and in each, Dutch Grammy winner Marc van Vugt’s guitar speaks with its own voice. Beautiful acoustic guitar music in the tradition of Bill Connors, Ralph Towner, Pat Metheny and Egberto Gismonti.

“My love for guitar started when I was 11 years old and heard the first chord of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’. I was mesmerized by what I heard and was completely absorbed by that sound. At that moment I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
In ‘The Coyote and the Badger’, I decided to reduce my music to just ‘me and my guitar’. No big ensemble to orchestrate, no other musicians to work with. Not just one guitar: each composition is played on a different acoustic guitar, each with its own sound and voice. Each tells a different story, whispering in your ear or sometimes screaming with emotion. It feels like a pact between me and all these guitars. A wonderful combination like that of the badger (badger) and the coyote who sometimes choose to form a pack and hunt together.”

Dutch Grammy winner Marc van Vugt is known as a musician and composer who constantly surprises with his own projects. These take place in the intimacy of smaller ensembles or in original cross-over projects such as with the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the Metropole Orchestra. Marc performs internationally with his own groups. His compositions reflect Marc’s experience in jazz and improvised music and contemporary composed music. The music is characterized by long, associative lines that often have melancholic overtones.
